A small single bed, also known as a narrow bed, a 2ft 6 bed, a 2.5ft bed, or an 80x190 bed, measures 76x190 cm (2ft 6in x 6ft 3in). Ideal when every centimetre of floor space counts, they’re designed to give one person a comfortable night’s sleep without swallowing the whole room. Whether it's for your child's first big bed, a compact box room, or a guest room that needs to do more than one job, our narrow single bed will more than earn its place.
All our small single bed frames are available in 17 different colours and are all fully customisable.

Infants and small children - A small single is a natural first step out of a cot; narrow enough to feel secure for little ones, but with plenty of room to grow into over the early years.
Box rooms - In narrow or awkward rooms, a 2ft 6 bed leaves just enough space to open doors, pull out drawers, and actually move around the room.
Multifunctional guest rooms - A small single takes up far less of the room when it's not in use, leaving the space free to breathe as a home office, hobby room, or reading nook the rest of the time.
Shared kids rooms – Two small single beds can fit where two standard singles won’t, leaving more floor space for storage, toys, or just a bit of breathing room.
Low beds – One of the safest options for young children. It’s close enough to the ground to take the drama away if they do roll out of bed in the night, and easy for little ones to climb in and out of independently.
Space saving beds – Our space saving small single beds keep the same internal mattress size but trim the external frame by around 8–12cm, which can make all the difference in very tight spaces.
Storage beds – A small single drawer bed or under‑bed storage design helps you reclaim space for toys, bedding, or clothes in compact rooms.
Kids beds – Loft and bunk configurations in a small single size take the frame vertical rather than horizontal, freeing up the floor for play, study, or simply being able to walk around the room comfortably.
Standard height beds – A standard height 2ft 6 bed gives you useful clearance underneath for storage boxes or baskets, without dominating a small room.
Attic beds – Built with a lower, reduced-height profile to work within sloped ceilings and awkward eaves, attic beds make genuinely usable sleeping spaces out of rooms that standard frames simply won't fit.
Four poster beds – A four poster in a small single size brings architectural presence to a compact room without the bulk — the vertical lines of the posts can actually make a room feel taller rather than more crowded.
Platform beds – Platform small single beds offer a simple, low‑profile base that feels modern and streamlined in compact bedrooms.
Floating beds – With no visible legs catching the eye or the corner of your foot, a floating frame makes a small room feel more open and is noticeably kinder to shins in a tight space.
Scandi style beds – Clean lines, lighter woods, and unfussy shapes keep a small single bedroom feeling open, calm, and less cluttered.
Minimum bedroom size recommendations - As a rule of thumb, we suggest a minimum room size of 2.0m x 2.5m for a small single bed, which allows enough space for the frame, a safe walkway, and doors or drawers to open comfortably.
Choose the right size mattress – A small single bed measures 76cm x 190cm (2ft 6in x 6ft 3in). Always check your mattress label before ordering. A standard single mattress (90cm) will overhang each side by 7cm, causing uneven wear. This can reduce edge support, ultimately affecting the quality and consistency of sleep. We offer small single mattresses if you need one.
Think about headboard height in smaller rooms – A full-height headboard can feel overwhelming in a compact bedroom. Because we build every frame to order, we can reduce headboard height to suit your ceiling clearance and room proportions, or supply the bed frame without a headboard entirely.
Plan for future growth – If you’re buying for a child who’s likely to have a growth spurt soon, and you have the space, it may be worth considering whether a standard single, petite double, or small double bed will serve them better long term, so you’re not replacing their small single bed in a couple of years.
Invest in the right bedding from the start – Small single bedding (76cm x 190cm) is less common than standard single sizes. Check availability from your preferred bedding supplier before ordering the frame to avoid a difficult search later.

A small single bed measures 76x190 cm (2ft 6in x 6ft 3in). It's commonly listed as an 80x190 bed, which is simply the rounded-up figure used across much of the industry; the actual sleeping surface is the same either way. If you're buying a mattress separately, always check the label rather than relying on the rounded figure to make sure it fits your frame correctly.
If a small single isn't quite right for your space or sleeper, we also offer:
Standard single beds (90 x 190cm) - The traditional UK single bed, perfect for kids, solo sleepers, and guest rooms.
European single beds (90 x 200cm) - Great for taller sleepers and matches the size of IKEA single mattresses.
Yes, though with some caveats. At 76cm wide, a small single is narrower than a standard single (90cm) and can feel restrictive for adults who move around in their sleep. For a permanent adult bed, a standard single or above is usually the more comfortable long-term choice. All our small single beds are built to the same 471kg (74 stone) capacity as our larger frames, so structural strength is never a concern. That said, for a permanent adult bed, a standard single or above will almost always be the more comfortable long-term choice.
Not necessarily; our small single bed frames are made specifically to fit 80x190 cm mattresses. As long as your current mattress is the right size, supportive, comfortable, and free from sagging, it will perform optimally on our solid wood bases.
