Naturally hard‑wearing – Solid oak is dense, durable and resistant to everyday knocks. Its natural resistance to fungal decay and insect attack, making it one of the most reliable hardwoods available for long-term furniture that won't degrade or weaken over time.
Slow-grown oak for added stability – We carefully source our oak from colder regions of North America, where slower growth creates a tighter, more consistent grain. The result is a solid oak bed frame that is more stable and less prone to movement over time.
Built to age beautifully - Oak has been trusted in British homes for centuries for good reason as a well built solid oak bed frame can easily last between 60 and 100 years. It also doesn’t just last - its rich patina and character develops over time.
Mortise and tenon joinery – Oak's natural density pairs perfectly with traditional mortise and tenon joints, creating frames that tighten over time rather than loosening, ensuring your bed stays solid and silent for decades.
Well suited to British homes – Oak bedroom furniture handles the moisture and seasonal temperature changes often found in older UK properties, making it an ideal choice for period homes and traditional architecture.
Use felt pads on hard floors – Solid oak bed frames weigh about twice as much as a solid pine alternative, which adds more stability. We recommend placing protective pads under oak beds in particular to help prevent this additional weight marking wooden or tiled floors.
Expect it to naturally darken over time – Oak develops a deeper, warmer tone as it’s exposed to light. This is completely normal and part of the character that makes a solid oak bed age beautifully.
Avoid placing near direct heat sources – Keep your solid oak bed frame at least 30cm away from radiators, underfloor heating vents, or fireplaces. Prolonged exposure to direct heat can dry out the timber and cause minor cracking over time.
Lift with two people – Oak is dense and weighty. If you move your bed, always lift with two people to avoid strain on the joints and to protect both the frame and your flooring. Dragging it can also damage your flooring.
Clean with a dry cloth monthly – Oak is low-maintenance, but regular dusting prevents buildup. Avoid spray polishes or excessive moisture - a soft, dry cloth is all you need to keep the grain looking rich.

Solid oak is cut from a single piece of timber and maintains its strength, grain, and appearance throughout the full depth of the wood. Oak veneer uses a thin layer of real oak bonded to cheaper composite materials like MDF or chipboard, which can chip, peel, or delaminate over time. All our oak bed frames are made from 100% solid oak - no veneers, no composites.
Not necessarily; our solid oak bed frames are made to fit standard UK mattress dimensions, from single through to super caesar. As long as your current mattress is supportive, comfortable, and free from sagging, it will perform optimally on our solid oak bases. However, many customers choose to pair their new frame with one of our mattresses for a fully upgraded sleep environment.
Not unless you want to. Most of our customers choose our assembly service, where we’ll professionally install it for you for total peace of mind. However, if you’d prefer to assemble it yourself, we offer two self-assembly options:
Room of Choice Delivery: we’ll deliver your bed to the room you choose, ready for you to assemble using our clear, easy-to-follow instructions
Standard Delivery: delivered to your front door for self-assembly
We source our oak from sustainably managed forests in the USA and Canada, where colder climates slow the tree’s growth. This produces a tighter, more consistent grain, resulting in timber that is naturally stronger, more stable, and less prone to movement over time.
While it travels further, the difference lies in the quality. This slower-grown oak offers a level of durability and refinement that’s difficult to achieve with faster-grown timber, ensuring your bed is built to perform and last for decades.
All of our oak is sourced from responsibly managed forests that are carefully replanted and strictly regulated, so you can be confident in both its quality and its origin.
An oak bed frame can support up to 471kg (74 stone). This capacity is due to extra-thick solid oak slats (which are double the industry standard) and its handcrafted construction, which provide significantly more strength than standard high-street alternatives.
It depends on your room's natural light. Light oak finishes work best in darker or north-facing bedrooms, where they reflect light and keep the space feeling open. Dark oak finishes show their depth and richness in well-lit rooms, where the grain and tone can be fully appreciated. Both age beautifully over time.
The honest, open grain of an oak bed frame provides a steady architectural baseline for the marble inspired drift of the Milan rug. This pairing, like many of the textures found in our bedroom rugs, balances the timber's strength with a sense of liquid movement to ensure the finished space feels both solid and serene.
