A 180x200 cm bed, also known as a European super king size bed, is one of the most common bed sizes across continental Europe, and the largest standard IKEA bed size available in the UK. Despite that, very few UK bed retailers offer a frame built specifically for it. If you have a 180x200 cm mattress and want to replace your frame with something solid, handcrafted, and built to last, ours are made to fit it exactly.
All our EU Super King Beds are available in 17 colours and are all fully customisable.

IKEA mattress owners upgrading their frame - The 180x200 cm mattress is one of IKEA's most popular sizes. If you love your mattress but want to replace the frame with something more substantial, our EU super king bed frame is built specifically for this size — no adaptation, no compromise on fit.
Couples wanting generous space without a UK super king footprint - At 180cm wide, an EU super king gives each person 90cm of sleeping space, comparable to a UK super king (183cm) but with a slightly narrower external footprint depending on the frame style. If your room is close to super king territory but not quite, this size is worth considering.
European expats and internationally-minded buyers - If 180 x 200cm is what you're used to sleeping in, a standard UK king (150cm) feels noticeably narrow. An EU super king keeps the proportions familiar without needing to source specialist bedding from abroad.
Master bedrooms where the bed is the centrepiece - An 180x200 bed size is substantial. In a well-proportioned room it anchors the layout and makes the whole bedroom feel more considered.
Sleepers who share with children or pets - The extra width compared to a standard king makes it easier to share without the bed feeling crowded.
Four poster beds - A solid wood EU super king four poster bed adds architectural height and structure. Best in rooms with generous ceiling height so the frame feels balanced.
Low beds - Lower-profile EU super king size bed frames suit contemporary and Scandinavian-influenced rooms, keeping the wider footprint feeling open and considered rather than dominant.
Standard height beds - A classic profile that’s easy to live with: comfortable sitting height, practical under-bed clearance, and a timeless silhouette.
Platform beds - Clean-lined wooden EU super king platform bed frames with a supportive slatted base offer a modern alternative to divans while maintaining airflow around your mattress.
Storage beds - With an 180 x 200 footprint, the under-bed storage potential is significant. Depending on the design, storage options can include drawers, an ottoman, or generous clearance for storage boxes.
Attic beds - Lower-profile frames for loft conversions and rooms with sloped or restricted ceiling height, where a standard frame profile would be impractical.
We build it as a standard size, not a special order - Most UK retailers don't offer 180 x 200cm frames at all. Because we build every frame to order, an EU super king takes the same time to produce as any of our other sizes, it just needs a little more wood. You get an uncommon size without an uncommon process or price.
The most direct upgrade for an IKEA 180 x 200cm mattress - If you already own a 180 x 200cm mattress, our EU super king frame is built to fit it precisely. No gap at the sides, no overhang, no need to compromise on a size that's slightly wrong. It's the frame IKEA's mattress deserves.
Nearly as wide as a UK super king - The difference between an EU super king (180cm) and a UK super king (183cm) is just 3cm of mattress width. In practice, those 3cm can make a meaningful difference to how the frame fits in a room, particularly alongside wardrobes, in alcoves, or in rooms where the layout is tight. If you've measured and a UK super king is borderline, 180cm might be the answer.
Built for stability at scale - At this width, corner joints and side rails take more leverage than smaller sizes, especially with two sleepers. Our mortise and tenon joinery is designed to keep the frame square, stable and quiet over time.
Support that holds up long-term - Wider beds demand more from slats and centre support. Our frames use extra-thick slats (twice the industry standard thickness) and robust centre support to reduce flex and help maintain even mattress support across the full surface.
Room size - A European super king size bed (180 x 200cm) typically suits rooms of around 3.4m x 3.5m (11ft 2in x 11ft 6in) or larger. If you want comfortable access on both sides and space for bedside tables, aim closer to 3.6m x 3.7m (11ft 10in x 12ft 2in). The difference in room requirement between an EU super king and a UK super king is small, but worth checking if your room is borderline.
Check your mattress dimensions carefully -180 x 200cm, 183 x 198cm (UK super king), and 166 x 198cm (small super king) are all similar in scale but none are interchangeable. Measure your actual mattress before ordering - don't rely on product names, which vary between retailers and countries.
Measure for real-life obstacles - Chimney breasts, radiators, and skirting boards reduce usable room width in ways a wall-to-wall measurement won't capture. At close to 180cm of mattress width, even a modest chimney breast can push the bed into the centre of the room more than expected. Measure at frame height, not just at floor level.
Bedding requires some forward planning - EU super king bedding (180 x 200cm) isn't widely stocked by UK high street retailers, but is readily available from IKEA and European bedding suppliers. Source your fitted sheets, mattress protector, and duvet before your frame arrives so you're set up from the first night.

A UK super king measures 183cm wide x 198cm long. An EU super king measures 180cm wide x 200cm long. The EU super king is 3cm narrower but 2cm longer. In practice the sizes are very close, but mattresses and bedding are not interchangeable between them — always check the dimensions of what you're buying.
If this is a little too large for your space, you might want to consider:
King Size: 150 cm wide x 200 cm long
EU King Size: 160 cm wide x 200 cm long
Small Super King Size: 166 cm wide x 198 cm long
The next standard sizes up from a European king size bed are:
Super King Size: 183 cm wide x 198 cm long
Eastern King Size: 200 cm wide x 200 cm long
Our solid wood EU super king bed frames support up to 471kg (74 stone), achieved through solid timber construction, mortise and tenon joinery, and extra-thick slats that are double the industry standard thickness, significantly higher than most mass-produced alternatives.
Not necessarily. Our EU super king bed frames are made specifically to fit 180 x 200cm mattresses. As long as your current mattress is the right size, supportive, comfortable, and free from sagging, it will perform well on our solid wood base.
