Spooky season is upon us. October (AKA the spookiest month of all) is the time to carve pumpkins, get your best fancy dress on, and stuff your face with trick ‘n treat spoils. It’s also the ideal time to snuggle up and get stuck into some scary movies.
Whether you’re a scaredy-cat shielding your eyes or a horror lover, everyone loves a good Halloween movie. Here at Get Laid Beds, we’re equally as keen for a spooktacular fright night in front of the TV. We’ve all got our favourite films, but is yours a popular pick worldwide?
To find the most watched flicks around the world, we delved into IMDB’s list of the top 100 Halloween movies and ranked them by search data. Grab your popcorn and feast your eyes on the most popular Halloween movies … if you dare!
IT was found to be the most watched Halloween movie worldwide. In fact, the 2017 adaptation of the Stephen King classic is the biggest Halloween favourite in a whopping 56 countries. All across the world, they all float down there.
Given how common a fear clowns are, this is perhaps unsurprising. Good horror movies tap into those pulse-quickening terrors, thrusting viewers into a white-knuckle ride from the safety of their homes. Pennywise certainly does the trick – you won’t look at a red balloon the same way!
Halloween is one of the most exciting times for kids, and the second most watched movie, Coraline, is a lot more family friendly. Number one in 9 countries, the animated fantasy horror is rated PG, although it does have some darker themes. Consider adding this 2009 adventure flick to your October 31st family movie night.
For scare-seekers in the UK, it’s all just a bunch of Hocus Pocus. The three wicked witches of Salem are an October comfort for 288,000 searchers. Hocus Pocus 2 is the most popular, with the timeless original in second place with 135,000 searches.
The family-friendly nostalgia doesn’t stop there, with 80s and 90s classics throughout the list. There are films geared toward a mature audience, such as the controversial Terrifier series, but the majority paint a wholesome picture of Halloween movie nights in the UK.

We’ve all been there. One minute you’re comfy ready to watch a movie in bed but then, flash-forward 90 minutes or so and you’re scouring the wardrobes for monsters and triple-checking the doors are locked. Horror movies have a way of immersing viewers in the ghoulish scenes, leaving an impression that lasts long after the credits roll.
Fear not – there’s no need to lose sleep this October. We spoke to renowned sleep expert, Dr Daisy Mae, to seek some advice on how to fall asleep easily after watching a horror movie:
"After watching a scary movie, you might experience heightened stress and mental stimulation for a while afterward. However, fear not, there are many ways to help you get a good night’s sleep. You could discuss the movie with your friends or family, rationalising it, especially anything that frightened you.
“You could also try relaxing your mind by switching to something more light-hearted, such as watching a romantic comedy or a sitcom, reading a book, or listening to music. These will help divert your mind away from the intense drama you've just experienced."
